New Beaver group starts in Hornsea!

FOR THE FIRST time in Hornsea's long history of supporting the scouting movement the town has now got its own Beaver troop.

The group have got off to a flying start when 15 enthusiastic members took their "Beaver Promise" before Liz Fraser, the Humberside Assistant County Commisioner for Beaver Scouts, at a special ceremony.

The Beavers are at the very first stage of the scout movement which last year enjoyed its centenary year and the group is open to boys and girls in the six to eight year age bracket.

Liz told the new group that "The Beavers are all about fostering friendship in a fun environment and I am really pleased to have been invited here to induct this new troop".

Liz also invested leader Catherine Burn and her assistant Beverley Rutherford.

Anyone wanting to know more about the Beavers or to enrol their child can do so by contacting Catherine on the following email address beavers@hornseascouts.org.uk

Springtime shopping treat for mums

Mothers will be in for a treat when visiting a shopping centre in Hornsea this Mothering Sunday.

The Hornsea branches of Beavers and Cubs where at Freeport Hornsea giving away free bunches of daffodils donated by the shopping centre.

Mave Lennox, leader of the Hornsea branch of the Cubs, said "The Cubs really enjoyed attending Freeport and giving away the daffodils and it is invaluable to us as a means of raising funds.

"Mums and dads came along to help which makes it a real family event. All the mums who receive the daffodils are really touched by the gesture and it teaches the children a valuable lesson on the joy of giving both a present and their time."
